LDA53 contributes to the preservation and improvement of human and animal health by screening, testing, analysing and advice.  It has analysed well water for the last 35 years. LDA53 understands the structure and quality of the soil and the water in the department of Mayenne.  They will listen to your questions and offer advice. LDA53 is approved by the Ministry of Health.

Laboratory experts are composed of 55 people adopting a golden rule: Quality First

Protection of Wells.
To assure the quality of water in private wells, along with the guarantee of  a good supply by up holding the rules of cleaning and regular controls.

Domestic uses:
  • Ÿ         Drinking, food preparation, washing up
  • Ÿ         Showers, bathing, washing, washing clothes.
  • Ÿ         Other uses, flushing the toilet.
  • Ÿ         Washing cars, swimming pool, watering the garden.


Agricultural uses:

  • Ÿ         Cleaning machinery

Why analyse your water?
Good quality water can preserve the health of the user. Bad quality water, containing microbes will affect the users health: gastric problems and hepatitis, especially in sensitive people, eg, old people, pregnant women, or people with general ill health.
Also, the presence of Iron and manganese can stain washing and sanitary equipment.

Treatment of Wells.
Some definitions:
Ÿ         Disinfection - treatment to kill micro-organisms
Ÿ         Filtration - treatment to eliminate particles. Also a treatment to eliminate the presence of iron and magnesium
Ÿ         Water softener - to lessen the hardness of water by ion treatment
Ÿ         Osmosis - treatment to eliminate the presence of salt minerals and organisms.
Ÿ         Demineralization - treatment to correct the aggressiveness of water.

Regular analysis of the well water is strongly recommended to assure the continued quality.

If you want to use your well for domestic use, do not forget the following rules!

Any person who provides the public with water for human consumption, for a fee or free, in any form whatsoever, including ice-cream, is required to ensure that the water is safe to be consumed.  It is prohibited to use the water for the preparation or storage of any goods intended for human consumption.

As a landlord in the tourist or rental industry, if you make water from a private well available to drink to a third party, you do so at your own risk if you do not meet the requirements

Sampling and analysis are performed by a laboratory approved by the Ministry of Health

When using water for human consumption for a single family use, a water analysis of P1, with the exception of chlorine, defined in the decree of January 11th 2007 must be made and attached to the declaration
